This shows the building layout in some detail, about 1870. The diagonal line shows the engineers’ plan for a pipeline (driven by a Blake Ram) to send water from the Holbeck to the reservoir on  Aumit Hill:. This is why it used to be called ‘Bathing-Wood Hill’.

It was the tradition that the cast-iron pipes used for this were later used for the heating pipes in the Monastery and Study Block: this could be true.

You can also see clearly how the Square was originally conceived as a buttress to the Study block. The details of the windows etc seem to be accurate.
