On 9 November 1920 the First XV lost to RAF Howden 3-9. On 6 December the RAF returned, this time in the airship R32, overlying several times at about 300m (1000ft), and dropping a message by parachute, below.
Just to the right of the Gym can be seen (on the site of the present St Hugh’s House) the gas works, in use 1873-1923. By the tree trunk the swimming pool hut roof is catching the sun
