Books: Title
Finds only the first words of the title as entered: The is usually included. Keyword is better except for common terms
Books: Year
You can look for 1899 or 189, which will cover 1890-99. There are some 18th century titles, but most books before 1800 are not yet available.
Books: Keyword
This is the best general index. It will find any word or phrase. If you want to include two separate words (or phrases), join them with ++ (no spaces). You can exclude the second term by joining it to the first with two minuses --. It is also possible to enter a word followed by a space, which will prevent compounds appearing.
Books: Keyword for Series
This search is confined to the Series field (eg Loeb, or Fathers of the Church)
Books: ISBN
ISBNs are present for about a third of the entries. Enter them either as 10 digits without gaps, or as 5 & 5 (easier to memorise). There is not yet a way to search for a particular publisher number.
Books: Accession
This is the (unique) number on the front of the book, used for loans. It is useful to find single records.
Books: Recent
Books added (not necessarily new) in the last 3 weeks. No subject is needed.
Classification: find by keyword
You can search for any word or phrase which has been used in the list of class numbers. Many of them are proper names.
Classification: list by section
Use this if you want to see what is covered by 280 or 9C. It will find all class numbers with the first two digits: this gives a broader coverage.
